Journeyman Lineman

EDUCATION:  High school education or GED required. High voltage Lineman training courses highly preferred.


EXPERIENCE:  Five (5) years’ experience with an electric cooperative including construction of new lines and working trouble calls preferred.


JOB KNOWLEDGE:  A working knowledge of RUS System of Accounts, RUS Construction Specifications, National Electrical Safety Code, and OSHA Rules and Regulations. is highly preferred. Knowledge of tools and equipment used in electric industry is required.


ABILITIES & SKILLS:  Required to be able to install voltage regulators, three phase capacitors, transformer banks and all other special equipment.  Must be able to supervise.  Must have the ability to train in the area of voltage drop, sectionalizing studies, etc.  Must have a valid Oklahoma Commercial Driver License, Class B preferred. Successful candidate should be certified to climb and will be required to supply all climbing and hand tools as designated by East Central Electric. All tools and related gear will be inspected as part of the final selection process. Must have a basic knowledge of personal computer and tablet operation.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Usual field, warehouse and office conditions.  Inside and outside work is required.  Travel is required.  Regularly exposed to varied adverse weather conditions, such as dust, rain, extreme heat, extreme cold, ice, snow, humidity, etc.  Works long hours in emergency situations.  The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.


HAZARDS:  Falls, falling objects, insect bites, toxic and/or caustic chemicals, hazardous materials, fumes and airborne particles, electric shock, cuts, burns, poison ivy and oak, etc.  Frequently works near moving mechanical parts, vibration.  Frequently works in high, precarious places.
